General Information

With affect from 1st January 2012 all foreign travelers planning a  holiday visit, a short business trip or to transit through need to apply and obtain Electronic Travel Authorization  ( ETA ) prior to arrival in Sri Lanka.

Visitors who already possess a valid Sri Lankan passport or valid residence permit in Sri Lanka do not need a visa to enter Sri Lanka.

The ETA initially limited to 30 days stay in Sri Lanka from the date of arrival although, it may be extended for up to three months from the Department of Immigration & Emigration, Sri Lanka ( www.immigration.gov.lk )
Transit visa up to 48 hours currently issued free of charge (but must have ETA reference number)
Nationals from Republic of Singapore & Maldives who visit Sri Lanka for a short visit up to 30 days are exempt from ETA.
Crew members of flights & ships do not requires a visa.

ETA can be obtained by the following methods
1. Port of Entry in Sri Lanka:  for last minute travelers who need to visit Sri Lanka with out prior ETA approval, a limited facility to obtain ETA is available at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo.  Additional fee will apply.

2. Online ETA System:  Submit visa application through the ETA system at www.eta.gov.lk and pay visa fee by visa, master or American Express cards  credit/debit cards ).  Applicant must input personal details including e-mail address.  Acknowledgement will receive within 24 hours and Confirmation ( ETA number ) will receive within 03 working days.  It will valid for 30 days only.
(ETA number) of the visa which should be shown at the Colombo International Airport during the immigration procedure.
When applying ETA by third parties payments are to be made through the arrangement made in ETA website   http://www.eta.gov.lk and obtain acknowledgement of ETA application. Any payments made to other websites or agencies are not valid to process a valid ETA.  Therefore, always endure that the payments made by accessing to Sri Lanka ETA website and avoid making repayment at the port of entry to Sri Lanka.

3. At the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brussels:  Those who are not in a position to apply online or unable to submit applications online, may submit application to this Embassy.
